The Wand is a device for delivering local anesthetic in a more comfortable and painless way for our patients. It is proven to be more comfortable than the traditional dental syringe, it eliminates collateral numbness, and greatly reduces anxiety, which is so common for patient’s expecting the traditional needle poke.
Pain from anesthetics comes from the pressure from the flow of anesthetic and the temperature of the anesthetic being delivered. The Wand has a much smaller needle and delivers anesthetic in a much slower (drip) rate. To add to patient comfort, we also warm our anesthetics and always have an option of epinephrine free anesthetics on hand.
The Wand is designed to provide single tooth anesthesia, which allows us to only anesthetize the teeth we are working on allowing patients to go on about their day after treatment without a numb face. I have found it particularly beneficial for pediatric patients, who tend to chew on their lips and tongue after being numbed.
