How should I take care of my Frenectomy site

Frenectomy post op

Since you just had a frenectomy you will be feeling some normal discomfort. We suggest you take homeopathic ledum 30c and/or 400mg ibuprofen combined with 500mg acetaminophen  for the pain as needed.

You will also need to ice for the first 24-48 hours (10 minutes on 10 minutes off over your lip) and it is a good idea to have a cup of crush ice to let it melt inside your mouth to provoke vasoconstriction which is good to decrease bleeding , inflammation and pain. After 48 hours salt water rinses would be beneficial to alkalinize the ph in order to promote healing. After 72 hours(3rd day) moist heat ( mix hot a water with 1 tbsp of Epson salt, use a washcloth to apply it outside of the mouth) will improve circulation and consequently decreasing the inflammation.

Lip exercises are very important part of your healing in order to prevent recurrence. Do each exercise six times per day and for six days. You will move your lip up and down six times and side to side six times every time . That means 6 sides,6 times toward each side for 6 days.

We will let you know if for some reason we needed to suture the site. You will have a follow up appointment in one week post-op to make sure everything is healing properly.

How should I take care of my Carlson bridge?

Carlson Bridge care

Your new Carlson bridge requires a little extra care since it is bonded to the teeth next to it. A waterpik is recommended to clean below and around your new bridge along with Super-floss or a thread floss to remove the biofilm. You should be doing both nightly. You are okay to chew on your Carlson bridge but avoid chewing anything too hard or crunchy to prevent breaking or dislodging.

What precautions should I have after a crown placement?

There may be some sensitivity and irritation after the temporary and permanent crown or bridge is placed. When we are preparing the tooth to receive the new crown, we work on dentin so sensitivity is expected for the next few weeks. You can take  homeopathic hypericum 30C for the sensitivity after drilling or  take ibuprofen(Advil) or Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain if necessary( consult with your primary physician if any contraindications for you)

This is normal, and the pain will subside after the soft tissue heals. A warm salt water rinse will help with the soft tissue irritation. Homeopathic Ledum 30C ( 3 pellets in 8 oz bottle of water, let them dilute and then take 1/2 tsp as needed for 2 days) would help as well.

If you are experiencing sensitivity please avoid those things that trigger the pain.  When the permanent crown or bridge is placed, it may feel a little awkward for a few days. Your mouth needs to adjust to the new restoration. It should feel like one of your natural teeth in less than a week. If your bite feels abnormal in any way, please let us know. Caring for your bridge or crown is just like caring for your own teeth. You should floss , waterpik and brush regularly.

The cement that was used needs  24 hours to set properly so please avoid eating or drinking for the following hour after cementation. For the first 24 hours please avoid crunchy and sticky food. Please floss at night  but pull the floss through instead of snapping it in and out. After 24 hours you can go back to normal eating, drinking and hygiene habits. A water-pik is recommended to help keep the edges of our new crown clean to prevent decay with regular brushing and flossing daily.
